Causes of Secondary Hyperhidrosis

Secondary hyperhidrosis can be caused by a variety of underlying conditions and can be categorized by area of involvement — local versus generalized. The association of social anxiety disorder and other psychiatric conditions with hyperhidrosis has also been studied. Additionally, secondary hyperhidrosis may be a side effect of medication.
